This transport depot was visible from the M4 Flyover at Chiswick. The main building was a two storey brick clad reinforced concrete frame offices together with a substantial steel frame aluminuim clad warehouse area. As the project was for Wincanton Transport the warehouse area was chilled for the storage of dairy products. There was also a lorry wash area and a small maintenance shed for the lorries too.
The project was let to two architects who had conflicting ideas on design so there were considerable numbers of changes. It was one of my tasks to prepare letters, keep records and agree these with the Architects to ensure that the Contractor's interests were protected.
I also let or assited in letting most of the subcontracts. I met with the subcontractors including the groundworker, concrete worker and bricklayer at regular intervals and agreed interim valuations with them. I also processed other subcontract packages such as the cladding and mechanical and electrical works.
On valuation days I would assist the Senior Surveyor, Bryan Winchester to prepare valuations, recording the materials on site as well as providing some valuation pricing from records I had prepared. Following the valuations I would also assist with the monthly financial report for the project.
