Plumbing Department Surveyor

During my training as a Quantity Surveyor for JM Jones I was, like all the other Quantity Surveying trainees moved from department to department and also worked with different Senior Surveyors to ensure that I got experience across the spectrum of the Contractor's works.

For one year I was the Quantity Surveyor for the JM Jones Plumbing Department. Every month I would travel to each of the sites where the plumbers were working and I would value their works to the end of the month. These valuations I would pass to the JM Jones Senior Surveyor for inclusion within their valuations with the Clients.

I also had to produce profit and loss statements each month (called Quantity Surveyors Valuation Reports) for the Plumbing Department to be used for the company monthly profit and loss statements.

The experience I gained in working in the Plumbing Department gave me an understanding of a business unit as well as liaison with many people. I also learned the plumbing terms and many of their problems that helped to identify variations. As I had to visit quite a few sites each month my geography of the Thames Valley and M4 corridor improved a lot too.
